Keynote—Polish Leadership

The article presents results of empirical research on leadership of the present Polish elite. 29 prominent Polish leaders were interviewed in-depth. The sample included among others: two former presidents of Poland, two Prime Ministers, two Vice Prime Ministers and Ministers of Finance, CEOs of the largest Polish companies, religious, scientific, sports leaders, elected local officials, NGOs’ heads. Interviews dealt with understanding of leadership roles, styles and methods, inhibitors and enhancers, leadership dilemmas, successes and failures. Leadership competencies and the ability to overcome constraints were assessed on the grounds of content analysis. Distribution of both variables confirmed by statistical test is close to normal. There is a strong positive correlation between them. Bounded leadership concept was proposed as analytical framework for the research results. In the light of the study leadership means “stretching” constraints or fight for autonomy.
